Leicester v Arsenal

Premier League - Wednesday, May 9, 7.45pm BST

Leicester City host Arsenal at the King Power Stadium in the penultimate match of the 2017/18 Premier League season for both clubs.

Neither side will gain anything by winning; Arsenal will finish sixth and with the remaining fixtures for teams around them, Leicester most likely won’t catch Everton in 8th. Such is the advantage the Foxes have in goal difference, that while others below them may equal their points total, none will overtake them.

Our match preview contains all the latest team news and best value betting tip for a vital Premier League match.

Leicester City

It was only two seasons ago that these two finished first and second in the table. Times in the Premier League have been relatively hard since then for the Foxes; recent weeks have done little to alleviate that feeling in the East Midlands.

Leicester are without a win in five (D1, L4) and just two wins in 12 (D4, L6). Compounding the poor form, the Foxes haven’t scored in the last three (D1, L2), putting even more pressure on under-fire boss, Claude Puel.

Having scored in four consecutive games, Jamie Vardy hasn’t netted in three and neither has Riyad Mahrez, linked earlier this week with a move to Arsenal this summer. Indeed, Mahrez hasn’t netted in seven nor crucially, has he registered an assist.

The pair have 27 of Leicester’s 49 Premier League goals and getting them back on the scoresheet is vital. That central defender Harry Maguire is their fourth most effective player in terms of goals scored (goals 2, assists 4) sums their problems up.

It’s almost easier to list those players who are fit such are Puel’s injury woes. Marc Albrighton is suspended while Amartey, Huth, James, and Ndidi are out. Diabate is on his way back and unlikely to be on the bench while late decisions will be taken on Chilwell, Dragovic, Okazaki, Schmeichel, and Simpson.

Arsenal has two matches to end their appalling away record. They are the only team in England’s top five levels of the football pyramid to not gain a single away point in 2018.

It’s a staggering ‘achievement’ to play six games and lose them all. It was little better in the first half of the season. In the last 10 away games, it’s one win (D3, L6).

The last seven matches away from the Emirates has seen them score under 1.5 goals. They haven’t scored more than 1.5 goals away from home since beating Crystal Palace and only twice all season.

The Gunners haven’t kept a clean sheet since a goalless draw at West Ham in mid-December, and only three in total on their travels. Perversely, their home record is on a par with Manchester City’s (47 points).

Cazorla, Elneny, Koscielny, and Ozil all miss out with few changes expected to the line-up which crushed Burnley 5 – 0.

All good things must come to an end, so to the bad. If Arsenal were to pick an opponent to try to end the record, Leicester would be it. Rare away day glee for Arsenal.
